How do you make sex less awkward?

I am young and inexperienced and I want to know how to make sex less awkward.
My girlfriend and I really care about each other, but the initiating part is scary.
When we are together I don't know whether to just be like "Let's have sex" or just initiate touching each other.
How do you just move into sex so smoothly like they do on tv or movies...

never plan sex!!! its horrible just kiss like normal and see how it goes, try moving forward abit and if she says no respect it :) it will happen when it does and thats the best way for it to be!
